An epoxy floor coating bonds into the concrete slab you already have. The slab becomes the finished floor rather than something to hide under tile, carpet, or a thin paint. Fastidious Coatings installs these systems in Phoenix garages, interiors, workshops, and commercial rooms.
A finished floor is four layers, in order. The concrete is mechanically ground and profiled first, so there is an open surface for the resin to key into. A 100% solids epoxy base coat is rolled into that profile and cures hard against the slab. The color layer goes on next. Two coats of UV-stable polyaspartic go over the top, and that topcoat is the surface you walk on.
The color layer is where systems differ. Flake is broadcast across the wet base, then scraped flat, which leaves a light texture that hides dust between cleans. Metallic is a pigmented coat poured and worked by hand into marble and stone effects, so no two floors finish the same way. Preparation and the topcoat stay the same either way.
Most of what a coated floor does for you comes from the polyaspartic topcoat, not the epoxy underneath. That is the layer taking the wear, the sunlight, and the spills.
Foot traffic, pet claws, and dragged furniture meet the topcoat, so a scuff does not expose bare slab. The cured surface is non-porous, so oil, detergent, and paint sit on top instead of staining the concrete. Polyaspartic holds its color under Arizona sun, which is why we do not finish a sunlit garage with a second coat of epoxy. There are no grout lines for dust to collect in.
Garages, laundry rooms, workshops, showrooms, and warehouses. Covered entries can take a UV-stable system when the slab is sound. Fully exposed drives and pool decks are a different exposure. We will say so if epoxy is the wrong product.
